Teacher Seeks Help After Delivery Rider Allegedly Failed to Deliver Her Laptop to Its Destination
A public school teacher is seeking help after a laptop she sent through a Lalamove rider failed to reach its destination.
Kristine Tamio turned to the program Raffy Tulfo in Action to seek assistance in holding accountable the person responsible for the missing item. The laptop, a Huawei Mate unit worth P42,998, was supposed to be delivered to a fellow teacher on January 12 in Imus, Cavite.
Kristine said she was sick that day and could not report to school, so she decided to book a Lalamove rider to send the laptop instead. However, the package never arrived at the drop-off point.
Tamio reported the incident to the police. The Philippine National Police Cavite Cybercrime Unit later obtained account details from Lalamove. The account used in the transaction was reportedly under the name of John Ver Salinas, a barangay official in Manila.
Kristine chose to confront Salinas at the barangay first instead of filing a case right away. Salinas claimed that he lost his cellphone four years ago and that his account may have been used without his knowledge.
Salinas also said that there were previous complaints linked to his account, but he did not report it at the time.
Senator Raffy Tulfo questioned this explanation, saying that if the account had been misused before, it should have been reported or deactivated. Although Kristine admitted that Salinas’ voice did not match the rider she spoke with, Tulfo said this did not automatically clear him of responsibility.
The Department of Information and Communications Technology stated that under current rules, the company may be held responsible for abuses committed using its platform. Lalamove said it is conducting an investigation, has banned the rider’s account, and promised compensation.
Since the company’s coverage is limited, Tulfo offered to personally replace the laptop. The program will also assist Kristine in filing proper cases so the matter can be settled in court.
