Authorities Arrest Female SK Councilor for Punching Barangay Captain
A female Sangguniang Kabataan SK councilor was arrested after she allegedly punched a barangay captain inside a barangay hall.
On Thursday, July 23, 2026, a female SK councilor was arrested after she allegedly assaulted a barangay captain during a dispute settlement held inside a barangay hall in Sibonga, Cebu.
Police identified the suspect as a 25-year-old SK councilor known as Alias Adelfa. The complainant was Barangay Captain Josefina Suerte, 52, who was facilitating a mediation involving members of the councilor’s family when the incident happened.
According to the Sibonga Municipal Police Station, the mediation was called to address a family disagreement involving the SK councilor’s mother and her brother-in-law. The issue reportedly centered on the brother-in-law’s continued stay in the family residence.
Both parties were invited to the barangay hall in an effort to peacefully resolve the conflict. During the discussion, the brother-in-law allegedly admitted his mistake and expressed his willingness to settle the matter.
However, the councilor’s mother reportedly remained firm in her demand that he leaves the house.
Authorities said the brother-in-law is married to the SK councilor’s sister, making the dispute a family matter that had already caused tension among relatives.
The SK councilor allegedly became involved in the discussion and confronted her brother-in-law. Since she was not one of the parties directly participating in the settlement, the barangay captain reportedly asked her to step outside and allow the mediation to proceed without interruption.
Police said a disturbance broke out inside the barangay hall, prompting the barangay captain to intervene and restore order.
The SK councilor allegedly struck the barangay captain in the face during the commotion,. The village official reportedly suffered scratches and minor injuries, while her eyeglasses were damaged during the incident.
The authorities arrested the SK councilor after the altercation. The barangay captain is now preparing to file a direct assault complaint against her as the investigation into the incident continues.
