Masked Man w/ Chako Startles Rally in Manila, Police Quickly Respond
A masked man carrying a chako suddenly showed up in the middle of the crowd during a peaceful protest along Recto Avenue in Manila.
Members of the workers’ group MANLABAN were surprised as they were in the middle of their program when they noticed the unfamiliar man approaching.
The group had been holding a calm and organized rally when their speaker had to stop to inform authorities about the situation. They wanted to make it clear that the man was not part of their group and that they had no intention of causing any trouble.
Their focus remained on their advocacy, and the unexpected presence of an armed individual quickly raised concern among the protesters.
Police officers nearby responded immediately after being alerted. They approached the man and escorted him away from the crowd to prevent panic and ensure everyone’s safety. Their quick action allowed the protest to continue without further interruption.
According to the police, the man was not connected to any of the groups joining the anti-corruption rally. Authorities also clarified that he would not be arrested. Instead, they planned to speak with him to understand why he brought a bolo to a large public gathering.
They wanted to determine if he posed any threat or if there was another reason behind his behavior.
Organizers and participants were relieved that no one was harmed and that the rally remained peaceful.
