67-Year-Old Farmer Died After Being Attacked by Drunk Neighbor in Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental

A 67-year-old farmer lost his life after being attacked by a drunk neighbor in Barangay San Rafael, Hinoba-an, Negros Occidental.

The suspect, who is now facing a murder charge, was identified as Rey Duran, a resident of the same barangay. The victim, Jesus Flores, was a married farmer known to his neighbors in the community.

Flores suffered stab wounds to his right chest and both arms, leaving him with severe injuries. Neighbors quickly called the Hinoba-an Municipal Police Station for help, and officers rushed to the scene.

When police arrived, they saw that the victim had just been stabbed. The suspect also resisted the authorities and refused to calm down. Officers even asked permission from their chief to use their service firearms, but they were instructed to hold back and observe the situation first.

The decision gave the responding team a chance to find the right moment to move in safely. They eventually managed to arrest Duran without further harm. Even after being brought to the jail facility, the suspect continued to act aggressively and showed signs of distress.

Police

contacted his sibling, hoping the family could help calm him down. Investigators believe that the attack stemmed mainly from emotional instability and heavy drinking. A murder case has already been filed against Duran through inquest proceedings, as the community mourns the sudden loss of a hardworking farmer.
