14-Year-Old Boy Missing After Being Swept Away by Floodwaters in Albay
A 14-year-old boy remains missing after being swept away by strong floodwaters in Barangay Salvacion, Sto. Domingo, Albay.
Around 8:30 on Sunday morning (December 7, 2025), the incident happened as continuous heavy rain caused the river in the area to swell and flow dangerously fast.
The boy was gathering coconuts with two friends when the water level suddenly rose. Within a short time, the strong current pulled him into the river while his friends watched in fear, unable to help. Nearby residents were quickly informed, and authorities were alerted right away.
Search and rescue operations immediately began, with teams from the Bureau of Fire Protection, Coast Guard, Philippine National Police, and local residents working together. They searched almost two kilometers of the river, carefully checking the banks and nearby areas.
Despite their combined efforts, the boy has not yet been found. Authorities fear that the rushing water may have carried him toward the sea, making the search more difficult.
Additional rubber boats were deployed under the order of regional police officials to help widen the search. These boats are being used to reach deeper and wider parts of the river that are hard to access on foot.
At the same time, nearby communities are also suffering from the effects of the bad weather. In Barangay Buhatan, three houses were buried after a large landslide struck the area.
In Barangay Alimsog, flooding reached chest level in some areas, forcing residents to stay alert and protect their families. After three days of almost nonstop rain caused by the shear line, communities continue to hope for clearer skies and the safe recovery of the missing child.
