According to police, the dispute intensified until Mamay reportedly picked up a sharp object and stabbed her husband in the stomach. Neighbors, alarmed by the noise, rushed to help when they realized what had happened. They immediately brought Buti to the nearest hospital, but he did not survive the injuries from the single stab wound.
Authorities said Mamay showed deep remorse after the incident and expressed regret while being escorted into police custody. She reportedly told investigators that she never intended for the fight to turn deadly. Police have confirmed that she will be facing charges in connection with her husband’s death.
People in Barangay Lawis expressed shock over the incident, saying that although the couple had minor disputes in the past, none appeared serious enough to lead to such a violent outcome. Many residents were left stunned that a disagreement involving a hair treatment could escalate into a fatal stabbing.
Law enforcement officials reminded the public of the importance of seeking help or intervention when disputes begin to intensify, especially when finances or other unresolved issues are involved. They emphasized that domestic tensions can quickly turn dangerous when emotions flare. Authorities encouraged couples to find nonviolent ways to resolve conflicts and to reach out to barangay officials or support services when arguments begin to escalate.
The heartbreaking incident highlights how rapidly domestic issues can worsen and the severe consequences that can result when tempers rise unchecked.
