Bishop Jose Colin Bagaforo of Kidapawan called for a renewed devotion to the Holy Eucharist as the diocese seeks to confront declining Mass attendance and rekindle the spiritual life of its parish communities.

Bagaforo made the appeal during the Diocesan Eucharistic Revival and Adoration Congress on December 7, which gathered an estimated 17,000 people.

The gathering culminated the yearlong Eucharistic adoration initiative led by the Gagmay’ng Kristohanong Katilingban, or Basic Ecclesial Communities, as part of the Church’s 2025 Jubilee Year of Hope.

“We want to restore among the faithful of the Diocese of Kidapawan a profound love and appreciation for the Holy Eucharist,” Bagaforo told Radyo Veritas.

“The center of our Church and of our Christian communities is nothing else but the Eucharist, the origin and source of our life,” he stressed.

The bishop said the revival is aimed in part at responding to low Mass attendance, which he placed at about 20 percent across the diocese.

Strengthening devotion to the Blessed Sacrament — particularly through parish adoration chapels — is a key priority, he added.

Bagaforo outlined three goals for the revival: deepening the faithful’s appreciation for the Eucharist, reaffirming its place at the heart of the Church, and forming groups dedicated to Eucharistic devotion.

“We hope that Eucharistic Adoration will transform and sanctify the lives of the faithful in the Diocese of Kidapawan. May we become more God-centered and develop a deeper and more meaningful love for the Holy Mass,” he said.
