Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s Lawyer Speaks on Senator amid Alleged ICC Arrest Warrant

Bato dela Rosa is no show in the Senate sessions since Ombudsman Boying Remulla claimed that an arrest warrant was allegedly issued by the ICC
(International Criminal Court) against him. The Ombudsman claimed that he has a ‘copy’ of the alleged ICC arrest warrant.

Then, both the ICC and the Department of Justice did not confirm the claim of Ombudsman Boying Remulla. The country’s chief grafter stood by his claim. Since then, Dela Rosa skipped the Senate sessions.

Bato dela Rosa filed a motion asking the Supreme Court to compel the Ombudsman to release a copy of the alleged ICC arrest warrant but it was junked
. Atty. Israelito Torreon, Sen. Bato dela Rosa’s lawyer, previously claimed that the Senator is allegedly not hiding.
According to Torreon, the Senator might make himself available once the government has clarified its course of actions. He also expressed their hope that the government will uphold the rule of law if an arrest warrant was indeed issued against his client.
Amid his long absence in the Senate from November 11, Senate Pres. Tito Sotto confirmed that Dela Rosa remains to be paid as a senator. Prior to it, Senate Finance Committee chairman Sen. Sherwin Gatchalian also claimed that the senators are not under the “no work, no pay” rule.

. According to him, the foreign court has supposedly released the document for a long time now but it was only recently when it informed the DOJ and the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) about it.
“I have not been in communication with him since November 7, I believe… Iba ’yung topic namin doon, about (anti-corruption) rally-rally,”

“I cannot confirm whether he is communicating through his family. I am communicating with his family… I have been given full authority to do anything and everything for his defense,”
