In a social media post, rail lines in Metro Manila announced that there will be free rides to various sectors this holiday season. This “Libreng Sakay” program will start this weekend, and there’s a catch that caught the attention of many people online.
The Department of Transportation announced that there will be 12 days of “libreng sakay” (free rides) on the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2 and Metro Rail Transit 3. The program will start on December 14 until December 25, Christmas Day. This complies with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.’s directive to ensure a safe and convenient travel experience for commuters during the holiday season.

senior citizens
December 15
students
December 16
overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their families
December 17
teachers and health workers
December 18
persons with disabilities and male passengers
December 19
government employees
December 20
female passengers
December 21
families (regardless of the number of members)
December 22
solo parents and members of the LGBTQIA+ community
December 23
private sector employees and “kasambahays” (house helpers)
December 24
uniformed personnel, veterans, and their families
December 25
free rides for all passengers
