Harry Roque Speaks on Former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte amid ICC Detention in The Hague

– The former President’s ex-spokesman, Harry Roque, claimed that Duterte’s food and medicines might allegedly be affected by the freeze implemented by the United States on the assets of the International Criminal Court and the ICC judges.

Duterte is detained under the custody of the ICC since March when the Philippine authorities who assisted the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) arrested him. On the same day of his arrest, he was flown out of the country for the transfer of his custody to the foreign court.

The family of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte claimed that they accept the ICC ruling on their patriarch’s interim release plea “with open hearts”. All his children were in the Philippines when the foreign court made a decision.

Duterte skipped the ICC hearing on his interim release plea. He signed a waiver and he was represented by his lawyer, Nicholas Kaufman. The British-Israeli Lawyer confirmed that they might request for the former President’s interim release again.

Prior to the ruling of the ICC on the interim release plea of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, Vice Pres.

Sara Duterte claimed that a “third country” is allegedly willing to host the interim release of the former President

. She did not disclose which country she’s referring to.

Recently, Harry Roque, the former spokesman of former Pres. Rodrigo Duterte, spoke about the reported freeze implemented by the United States on the assets of the ICC and its judges and prosecutors. According to the former presidential spokesman, it may allegedly affect the food and medicine supplies of former Pres. Duterte.

Through a post on social media, Harry Roque explained that while the ICC has no assets and accounts in the United States, its processes may still be affected by the U.S. freeze due to the swift code which is necessary for money transfers.

“Hindi ko alam kung paano ngayon ang ginagawa ng ICC para makatanggap ng pondo sa kanyang operasyon ng walang swift account. Alam naman natin na ang pondo ng ICC nanggagaling sa mga miyembrong bansa,”
