6-Year-Old Girl Rescued After Hostage Incident in Marawi City
A six-year-old girl was safely rescued after a tense hostage situation inside Ground Zero in Marawi City.
On early Sunday morning (December 21, 2025), the incident happened around 7:50 a.m. and quickly drew the attention of nearby residents who were alarmed by what they saw.
Neighbors stayed close, hoping their presence and words could help ease the tension and prevent anyone from getting hurt.
Authorities arrived and carefully monitored the situation. As time passed, the man became more unstable and difficult to communicate with. Police later noticed that the child was already bleeding as she tried to stop the knife with her hands.
Seeing that the girl was in immediate danger and her safety was at risk, one police officer was forced to take action.
The suspect was shot, which led to the child being released. The man died at the scene. The young girl was immediately brought to the hospital, where she was treated for injuries on her cheek and arm.

Naka ano yung kamay, pinipigilan ng kamay niya (biktima) yung blade ng hawak ng suspek natin. Doctors said her wounds were not life-threatening, and she is now recovering under medical care.

The Marawi City Police are continuing their investigation to understand what led to the incident and to identify the suspect. According to authorities, the man was not known to residents in the area and did not appear to be from the neighborhood.
Police believe he may have been connected to construction work in the area but are still verifying details.
Authorities are asking anyone who may have information or is searching for a missing relative who could have been in the area to coordinate with the police.
