Catalina Cabral: Ex-DPWH USec’s Remains Positive In Anti-Depressant Substance

The remains of former Department of Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Catalina Cabral turned out positive in anti-depressant drugs.

Resigned Public Works and Highways Undersecretary Maria Catalina Cabral has died after a fall. Her body was near the site of an allegedly anomalous rock netting project in Benguet.

According to reports,

Cabral died after falling off a cliff

, and forensic examinations have conclusively identified the remains recovered as those of the former DPWH undersecretary. The autopsy findings ruled out foul play and pointed to blunt force trauma from a high fall as the cause of her death.

So far, no signs of foul play,”

Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla detailed.

Recently, after the results of the toxicology examination done by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on her remains, it indicated that she tested positive in anti-depressant drugs. There were no findings of any abnormalities or terminal diseases.

The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) previously searched Cabral’s Baguio hotel room and seized some items for investigation. Authorities found a knife inside her room and several types of medicines. Investigators found no evidence of a struggle at the scene or inside Cabral’s vehicle as well.

The sudden death of Cabral has sent shockwaves and cast uncertainties over the corruption investigation into the country’s flood control projects.

To recall, Cabral resigned from DPWH after she was tagged in the alleged anomalous budget insertions related to the

anomalous flood control projects

. Allegedly, she took part in the kickback scheme involving substandard and nonexistent flood control projects that allegedly benefited lawmakers and public officials.
